Atenas is a small, typical town in Costa Rica, with a central park, a church, a soccer field, and a few local stores, a fruit and vegetable central market, and restaurants—nothing fancy, just basic and simple. It does have one big claim to fame though - it bills itself as having the best climate in the world! You'll see lots of signs saying “Atenas - El major clima del mundo.” Temperatures are typically in the 80s during the day and the 60s at night.
Atenas es un pequeño y típico pueblo de Costa Rica, con un parque central, una iglesia, una cancha de fútbol y algunas tiendas locales, un mercado central de frutas y verduras, y restaurantes—nada lujoso, solo lo básico y sencillo. Sin embargo, tiene una gran fama: se autoproclama como el lugar con el mejor clima del mundo. Verás muchos letreros que dicen: “Atenas - El mejor clima del mundo.” Las temperaturas suelen rondar los 80°F (27°C) durante el día y los 60°F (16°C) por la noche.

Airbnbs are a good choice for groups and I've heard there are some really nice ones in Atenas. I recommend checking them out!
A fairly basic but lovely and tropical Bed & Breakfast that is right near our house and near the party venue - no A/C, but has fans and lots of shade (our house in Atenas doesn't have A/C and we're fine with fans). It advertises the best breakfast in Costa Rica!

For those who want to go really basic, there are container cabins and also an A Frame cabin located at the El Toledo coffee farm (see below). Very reasonable prices and you may see monkeys outside your room - but again, super basic!

Fairly basic hotel - I liked Eden Resort more but there are some rooms with A/C at Las Colinas.

Los Airbnbs son una buena opción para grupos, y he oído que hay algunos realmente bonitos en Atenas. ¡Te recomiendo echarles un vistazo! También hay un Bed & Breakfast bastante sencillo pero encantador y tropical, que está cerca de nuestra casa y del lugar de la fiesta:
También hay otro Bed & Breakfast bastante básico pero hermoso. No tiene aire acondicionado, pero cuenta con ventiladores y mucha sombra (nuestra casa en Atenas tampoco tiene A/C y estamos bien con ventiladores). ¡Presumen de tener el mejor desayuno de Costa Rica!

Para quienes buscan una opción más sencilla, hay cabañas tipo contenedor y una cabaña tipo A-frame en la finca de café El Toledo (ver más abajo). Son muy económicas y podrías ver monos afuera de tu habitación, pero de nuevo, ¡es una opción muy básica!

If you want to experience The Retreat Wellness Resort without staying there, there are several different day packages available that allow you to do yoga, have a massage, and enjoy the pool and facilities. We went there for cocktails and the view was spectacular. You can also go just for lunch or dinner. Advance reservations are needed for cocktails and/or dining.
Or, you can have a local Costa Rican masseuse come to you for a very reasonable fee. I had the best massage with Marcela Garita. You can contact her directly through What's App +506 8622-6948. She speaks some English too.
El Toledo Coffee Tour
I really enjoyed this tour - very informative, includes a little walk too. If people are interested, they also can arrange a lunch up on the mountain near the farm and a hike. Let me know if folks have interest and I can coordinate.
